Iranian Clinical Study Proves Silver Increases Effectiveness of Antibiotic Drugs Against Staphylococcus aureaus

This study was conducted by the Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Medical Nanotechnology Research Center, Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences at the University of Tehran, Iran. Say what you will about the Iranians, but when they do a medical study, they do it up right. Apparently Iranian scientists were two full months ahead of …

How Silver Works Against Viruses

Viruses were “discovered” by a succession of scientists in the late 19th century. They are very small, in fact, about 100 times smaller than bacteria and can only be seen by the human eye under an electron microscope. They are measured in terms of nanometers. Each nanometer is one billionth of a meter. Viruses are …

Interaction of silver nanoparticles with HIV-1

Journal of Nanobiotechnology 2005, 3:6 Abstract The interaction of nanoparticles with biomolecules and microorganisms is an expanding field of research. Within this field, an area that has been largely unexplored is the interaction of metal nanoparticles with viruses. In this work, we demonstrate that silver nanoparticles undergo a size-dependent interaction with HIV-1, with nanoparticles exclusively …

Silver nanoparticles inhibit hepatitis B virus replication

Abstract BACKGROUND: Silver nano-particles have been shown to exhibit promising cytoprotective activities towards HIV-infected T-cells; however, the effects of these nano-particles towards other kinds of viruses remain largely unexplored. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of silver nano-particles on hepatitis B virus (HBV). METHODS: Monodisperse silver nano-particles with mean particle …

Antifungal Effect of Silver Nanoparticles on Dermatophytes

Spherical silver nanoparticles (nano-Ag) were synthesized and their antifungal effects on fungal pathogens of the skin were investigated. Nano-Ag showed potent activity against clinical isolates and ATCC strains of Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Candida species (IC80, 1-7 μg/ml). The activity of nano-Ag was comparable to that of amphotericin B, but superior to that of fluconazole (amphotericin …
